Back to the homeland

mum2, originally uploaded by boot_of_glue.

Well, I've returned to the homeland for a few days to act as IT guy for the house and repair my parents multitude of computers. They have 5 of them, but I think that I shall only fix two of them as no more are really needed. I should point out that parents, despite their affirmation that they know about computers, really know nothing and have a habit of messing with things that shouldn't be touched by clueless people. Just because you were one of the first people to have an Amstrad and could look at directories in DOS doesn't mean that you can install hardware and edit your registry. Especially since you haven't grasped the concept of updating your OS and Anti-Virus programs.

I have also returned home to find a DUP majority and the resignation of David Trimble. One of my earliest memories is of some graffiti near my childhood habitat which said "Trimble will tremble when the boys reassemble." I'm not sure if he has been doing too much trembling but he didn't seem too happy. In any case, Ian Paisley Sr. has been on the news ranting about what the people of NI want and claiming that they now have the upper hand; my ex-political activist mum muttered something rude about the fact that the problem has always been that they have the upper hand. I don't think that it would be unreasonable to propose that Paisley died many years ago but has been kept alive by Mum-ra through the powers of necromancy. Hopefully Mum-Ra's powers will soon deplete; it's just a shame that Ian Paisley Jnr is as much of a bigoted fundamentalist as his father.

Rather than watch the news I have decided that reading Nietzsche is more fun so here is something to think about from the Late Notebooks:

"To imprint upon becoming the character of being - that is the highest will to power.

A dual falsification, by the senses and by the mind, to obtain a world of things that are, that remain, that have equal value, etc.

That everything recurs is the most extreme approximation of a world of becoming to one of being: pinnacle of contemplation.

"
