"What's that? You say you're not Hegelian? But that makes you even more so!"

Go Here for Smokewriting on the lecture on Hegel and Deleuze I attended yesterday. I don't really have too much to say about it apart from the observation that it seemed to be an attempt to bring Deleuze within the Hegelian system. This was unfortunate as I had hoped for more than that but it was apparent that Stern had only begun his reading of Deleuze and was very much engaged in a Hegelian reading of Deleuze. He was obviously on unfamiliar territory and did not engage properly with Deleuze's concepts. Rather he seemed to be a detective looking for Hegelian words in the Deleuzean project.

I asked another Hegelian about this later; my usual question of "Why do Hegelians always try to bring everything within their system?" To which he replied, "You know, we are sick of getting asked this question, why don't you ask a different one?" At that I stuck my face back into my plastic cup of cheap wine.

I think, though, that I always ask that question because no one ever gives me an answer beyond "Stop asking that question!" Perhaps I will stop asking it when someone obliges me with a decent answer. If anyone out there could I would be very much appreciative, especially since I could stop asking it and have a new question to pester people with instead.


Anyway, I must get back to something much more fun than worrying about Hegel. What was to be a 20 minute presentation next week has turned into an hour long extravaganza on 'The Fold' to be given by myself and a friend. I'm quite looking forward to it although it is a text that I am very terrified of.
