On females and the net

Inspired by the current discussion in the comment box at Infinite Thought I have been thinking more about femininity and the internet. For myself I never really find this an issue. I tend to think of myself as some genderless entity who at one moment might be feminine, at others emasculated but tending to nonchalently float between the two. There are times of course when being female has its bonuses but usually it doesn't matter all that much to me. Well, the only time it matters is in philosophy as it is such a male dominated subject and the number of great female thinkers can be counted on my fingers but that's an issue that I only deal with when I have to.

Anyway, onto my half-arsed net research. I started off with that Real Women site that Dee Dee posted on Nina's blog. After browsing it for a while I realised that it was not the place for me; therefore logical reason led me to the conclusion that I must not be a real woman (I seem to learn something new about myself every day). With that in mind I had a look on Technorati at the top 100 blogs. The most female of these was a site called Suicide Girls. This seems to be the other extreme; it's basically a number of porn blogs that you have to suscribe to that has lots of girls with piercings and tattoos; logical conclusion here was that I am not on the verge of suicide (good to know) nor am I a porn blog.

I didn't really know where to go from there. I assumed places like diaryland and livejournal were going to be full of the 14 year old American girls that k-punk mark mentioned in the comments on IT. So I had a browse through k-punk's link list and found a few of interest.

Body parts

The Original Soundtrack

Zero Interrupt

S/FJ (Male blogs with some female posts. Thanks Luke!)

And on a random web search

The Fictions of Deleuze and Guattari

After that I got sick of searching the WWW, it's pretty hard to find interesting female bloggers as most of the hits I came up with were men, girls who liked shoes / were of the SATC persuasion and kids.

But does it really matter all that much anyway?
