beginning

Starting studying seems to be the hardest part of studying. For me anyway. I've made a serious dent in my dissertation now having completed my first initial chapters of theory. My current chapter is running away with itself a bit. I had intended to write about folds, but then I realised that I needed to write about complexity and openess and then about machinic assemblages which led to me thinking that I must include something on Rhizomes. It's all very exciting and I'm loving reading all of this stuff. Especially since I discovered the excellent 'Incorporations'. I spent much of last night reading Simondon's 'The Genesis of the Individual' before I got distracted by hunger and weariness. Now I want to finish it but instead I'm flicking about the internet.

I think the problem might be too much information. My bibliography is growing day by day. I initially started by just writing on Serres and Nietzsche but the list has progressively grown. There's just so many interesting articles and books and I want to read them all. Unfortunately once I read one I get a reference for another one and off I go to that. From my lecture notes I went to Canguilhem to Descartes and a book on quantum theory (which I shouldn't be reading but its very interesting) then to Simondon. From Serres's Folds to Deleuze's Folds to Thom's catastrophe theory; from Nietzsche to Deleuze and Guattari to Calabrese then back to Deleuze and Guattari. Reading an article for a few lines of content and a long footnote. On and on and on, concepts upon concepts that I'm trying to weave together to form a coherent argument on the process of becoming in capitalism.

Unfortunately I have to stop reading this stuff tomorrow. I've got to write a paper on Lyotard so I need to get back into reading 'The Differend.'

This was definately a procrastination post. Maybe I'll start reading again now or maybe I'll flick through a few more webpages and have one final cigarette.
